Seeking help and finding the right counsellor may feel like a daunting experience but you are here - you have taken the first step.
As an experienced counsellor I can support you to cope with whatever is going on for you at the moment, and work with you to make the difficult emotions that you are feeling a bit easier to sit with.
We are all unique and the way I work reflects that.
My approach is mainly Person-Centred but I also use other therapeutic approaches to fit the needs of the individual.
I accept you as you are without judgement.
I have always been interested in people and passionate about helping others.
Before training to become a counsellor, I was a teacher for 20 years; nurturing and supporting children, helping them to grow and to reach their full potential. In a lot of ways counselling is similar.
I took some time out from teaching to have my own children and it was becoming a parent that brought about profound changes to my life as well as my relationships.
I had always been a perfectionist but when it came to parenting holding myself to unrealistically high standards lead me to feel anxious and to become self-critical.
I realised then that something needed to change so I sought the help of a counsellor and the experience changed my life! Over the sessions I learned a lot about myself and how my experiences in life had shaped me. I learned to let go of perfection, to be kinder to myself and to accept that being 'good enough' is good enough.
The difference that seeking help from a counsellor made to my life was what inspired me to become a counsellor.
There is something magical about seeing someone grow and change and it is a privilege to be part of the journey.
